Workshop on “Hands-on Training on OBE Course Manager”

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) organized a workshop titled “Hands-on Training on OBE Course Manager” on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Distance Learning Theatre, Level 8, Block C, AUST. The workshop was primarily organized for the faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering, with participation from faculty members of other departments as well.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam, Director, IQAC, AUST. In his opening remarks, he warmly welcomed the participating faculty members and introduced the OBE Course Manager Portal, a digital platform developed by him to facilitate the effective implementation, monitoring, and documentation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) practices. He provided an insightful overview of the portal’s key concepts, features, and functionalities, emphasizing how the platform can support faculty members in systematically managing course-related OBE activities, assessing learning outcomes, documenting attainment, and facilitating Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

During the session, Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam explained the importance of Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and their alignment with Program Outcomes (POs) and the Knowledge Profile. He emphasized that properly defined and measurable CLOs help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to address real-life problems and succeed in their professional careers.

The training demonstrated how the OBE Course Manager integrates and organizes essential course-related information in a centralized platform. The system includes COs mapped to POs and the Knowledge Profile, class performance, quizzes, assignments, projects, open-ended laboratory activities, final examination questions, student information and marks, survey responses, CQI narratives, and relevant accreditation documentation.

A key feature demonstrated during the workshop was the Cohort Comparison facility under the Attainment section. This feature allows faculty members to compare the attainment of different course offerings and identify trends in student performance.

The workshop also highlighted several additional features of the latest release of the OBE Course Manager, including:

• Outcome Quality & Coverage Gaps (CQI Section): The system identifies non-measurable CO verbs and CEP/CEA coverage gaps, suggests corrected wording, and allows the proposed corrections to be incorporated into the action plan. Approved outcomes are not directly modified; necessary corrections are incorporated through the subsequent OBE cycle.
• CEP & CEA Audit Forms and Rubric Generator: The system provides audit forms and rubric-generation facilities for projects, assignments, reports, presentations, viva examinations, and laboratory activities in a printable and student-friendly format.
• Open-Ended Laboratory Support: The system supports task statements and OEL-specific rubric criteria for open-ended laboratory activities.
• Final Examination Vetting Form: The system includes a final examination vetting facility incorporating CEP and CEA considerations.
• Offline Use: The “Save the App for Offline Use” feature enables users to maintain a copy of the application on a computer or USB drive and use it without an internet connection.
• About Section and Methodology: The system includes an About section describing the methodology followed in different sections, supported by 31 references.

The workshop provided the participants with practical opportunities to explore and apply the different features of the OBE Course Manager. Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, entered and reviewed course-related information, and practiced different aspects of OBE implementation. Following the activities, the facilitators reviewed the participants’ work and provided constructive feedback to improve their understanding and practical application of the system.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment. The participants raised various questions regarding the use of the OBE Course Manager, course outcome attainment, assessment documentation, CQI activities, and accreditation requirements. The facilitators addressed the queries and provided necessary explanations and guidance.

Finally, Prof. Dr. Mazharul Islam, Director, IQAC, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed his appreciation to the participating faculty members for their active participation and valuable engagement throughout the workshop. The workshop concluded successfully and contributed to enhancing the participants’ understanding of the OBE Course Manager, its practical application, and its role in strengthening outcome-based teaching, assessment, documentation, and continuous quality improvement at AUST.
