Workshop on “Effective Communication: Behavior and Attitude Towards Students, Academics, Staff, and Colleagues”

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission jointly organized a Workshop on “Effective Communication: Behavior and Attitude Towards Students, Academics, Staff, and Colleagues” for the All Officers, Assistant Administrative Officers, Upper Division Assistants and Lower Division Assistants of AUST. This program aims to promote clear, respectful, and constructive communication across all levels of the institution, creating a more supportive and productive atmosphere for learning, teaching, and professional development.

The program was held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at VC seminar room, Level:4, Block-D, AUST. The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Vice Chancellor (In-charge) and Pro Vice-Chancellor of AUST. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Mr. Abu Zahid Hasan Neel, Psychosocial Counsellor and Clinical Psychologist, at Uttara University. The program was moderated by Ms. Rakhi Ganguli, Senior Psychologist, Dhaka Ahsania Mission.

The program started with a warm welcome speech given by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director, IQAC, AUST.  Next, our chief guest Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Vice Chancellor (In-charge) and Pro Vice-Chancellor of AUST address how we interact with one another—whether it’s in the classroom, during academic discussions, or in administrative meetings. By creating a healthier, more inclusive, and more productive space for everyone we may raise awareness and giving our community the skills to navigate diverse perspectives with empathy and professionalism.

In a recent insightful session, Mr. Abu Zahid Hasan Neel, delivered an engaging discussion focused on understanding and improving communication with Generation Z students. Mr. Neel highlighted the unique characteristics of Gen Z and how these traits impact their learning preferences and interactions within academic environments. The discussion centered on three key areas:

  • Understanding the Unique Characteristics of Generation Z: Mr. Neel explored how Gen Z students, born between 1997 and 2012, exhibit distinct behaviors shaped by technology, social media, and a rapidly changing global landscape. He emphasized their preference for digital platforms, quick access to information, and desire for authenticity in communication.
  • Developing Effective Communication Strategies: Mr. Neel offered practical strategies for effectively engaging with Gen Z students. He also discussed the role of personalized feedback and the need for instructors to be more responsive to their students’ queries.
  • Enhancing Teamwork and Collaboration in the University Environment: Mr. Neel emphasized the role of collaboration in university settings. He also discussed the importance of inclusivity in team settings and promoting a culture of mutual respect.

This program ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director, IQAC, AUST.
