Seminar on “Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) organized a seminar on “Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). The program was held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 01:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Theater (DLT), Level-8, Block-C, AUST. All Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, PSAC members, departmental/program OBE committee of EEE, TE, IPE, and ME only and OBE Coordinators of all departments/school were present in the seminar.
The chief guest was the Honorable Vice Chancellor of AUST, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque. The special guest was the Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor of AUST, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman. The session chair was Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director, IQAC, AUST. The key presenter was Prof. Dr. Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, Dean of Engineering, BRAC University and Former Head, Department of CSE North South University (NSU).
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed has inaugurated the program and on his opening note addresses the key issues for continuous quality improvement (CQI) in OBE system. He said that this seminar was designed to address the complexities of assessment in an OBE system and to equip educators with the skills needed to foster continuous improvements across curricula.
Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque points out the importance of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) to enhance the teaching, learning, and assessment process. He mentioned that AUST is dedicated to advancing quality education in Bangladesh through innovative practices, research, and collaboration with local and international partners.
Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman discussed the importance of assessment and continuous quality of any discipline. He also mentioned that OBE is transforming the way we think about teaching and learning, focusing on what students truly gain from their educational experience.
Key presenter, Professor Dr. Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury in his presentation given importance of different assessment techniques and talked about the CQI as a part of OBE system at every level from designing a curriculum to implementation at course level. He focuses on tools and knowledge needed to drive continuous improvements. As Bangladesh increasingly adopts the OBE model, this seminar comes at a pivotal time, addressing the crucial need for continuous quality enhancement to align academic programs with industry expectations and global standards.
