Seminar on “Navigating Emotional Challenges at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology”

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission jointly organized a seminar on “Navigating Emotional Challenges at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology”. The program was held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at M. H. Khan Auditorium, AUST. All Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Lecturers (Grade I and Grade II) were present at the seminar.

The chief guest was Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor, AUST and the special guest was Prof. Dr.  Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, Pro Vice – Chancellor, AUST and the session chair was Prof. Dr. Mahjabeen Haque, Professor, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, Dhaka University.

The program was moderated by Dr. Naznin Sultana Chaity, Additional Director, IQAC, AUST. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director, IQAC, AUST gave his welcome speech and underscored AUST’s commitment to creating a supportive work environment where faculty members are empowered to prioritize their well-being while continuing to deliver high-quality education. Faculty members play a crucial role in shaping the academic journey of students, and AUST acknowledges that supporting their mental health is vital for maintaining a vibrant and effective learning community.

Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque emphasized the importance of mental health in the academic journey and recent issues in Bangladesh. He mentioned that our students have faced various emotional and mental challenges for the last two months and gave importance to AUST’s initiative on commitment to holistic education, where emotional well-being is as important as academic success. He also advised all faculty members to handle students with care and create a welcoming atmosphere.

Pro-vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman discussed on initiative is part of AUST’s broader commitment to creating a nurturing and inclusive campus environment. By providing students with the resources to manage their emotional health, AUST aims to produce well-rounded graduates who are not only academically accomplished but also emotionally resilient and prepared to navigate life’s challenges.

After 1st session, Rakhi Ganguly, Senior Psychologist, Health Sector, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, moderated the 2nd session. Prof. Dr. Mahjabeen Haque stresses the initiative for faculty members significant step in ensuring the long-term well-being of AUST’s academic staff, acknowledging the emotional toll that teaching, research, and mentorship can take. By providing emotional and mental health support, AUST seeks to create a thriving and sustainable academic environment that benefits both faculty and students alike.

This program ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Director, IQAC, AUST.
